Plone is a content management system for sites where several people are working together on the same content. It provides easy web editing and publishing tool for people without technical background. You do not need to install any special software or learn difficult technologies - Plone runs on a server and all functionality is accessible through your web browser.
Plone has been actively developed since 2001 by hundreds of Plone community members, making it a very mature technology. CIA and NASA, many governments and universities have chosen to run their web sites on Plone. Plone has also received various awards like An eWeek Labs Analyst's Choice 2006 and Packt Publishing Best Other Open Source CMS 2008.
Plone is licensed under open source GPL license. This means that there are no licensing costs. Popular open source technology is commonly known and you cannot be locked down to one particular provider. Global support is available from over three hundred providers (see plone.net site for provider listing and site examples).
Active and mature development guarantees that Plone comes with flexible architecture and rich plug-it set. If there is no ready plug-in Plone can be extented to cover specific organizational needs.
